A senior government official in Amadi State expressed concern about what he termed “proliferation of arms” in the hands of civilians in the state.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the deputy governor, Manasseh Deboi said the proliferation of arms in the hands of civilians is the major cause of problems between pastoralists and farmers.

He pointed out that the presence of weapons also threatens border security with neighboring Eastern Lakes and Western Lakes states.

Deboi urged forces engaged in the disarmament campaign to collect weapons and not sell them to civilians.
