Local authorities in South Sudan’s Amadi State have accepted a peace initiative by church leaders to negotiate with armed opposition groups in the state, a church leader said.

Pastor Felix Zara Kurai, Coordinator of the Catholic Church in Mundri West, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the state government had expressed its willingness to hold talks with the armed groups in an attempt to restore security and stability in the area.

He pointed out that the church leaders will visit the rebel-controlled areas to know the nature of their grievances so a peace agreement could be reached between the state government and the opposition group in the state.

“The government has accepted the peace initiative to discuss the problem in Banglo, Katobe and Mapua, so there are arrangements in place to go there in order to know their grievances,”said Zara.

Rev. Felix called upon call armed groups to allow citizens to cultivate without any harassment.
