A man has been beaten to death for allegedly committing adultery with a married woman in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State, citizens and local leaders said.

A man has been beaten to death for allegedly committing adultery with a married woman in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State, citizens and local leaders said.

Obwaha Michael, 52, was killed by a mob in Mura village Hiyala Payam of Torit County on Monday.

Galileo Ohide, the Paramount Chief of Hiyala, Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that Obwaha was killed on Sunday at around 8:00 pm. He said the suspects escaped after resisting arrest orders from local authorities.

“The incident occurred on Sunday evening. This person committed adultery with someone’s wife called Sunday, so when the woman was asked, she admitted that she had love affairs with the person,” Ohide said.

Jacob Atari Albano, a resident of Torit, confirmed the incident and said the youth in the area are still tracing the whereabouts of the killers. He warned communities against taking laws into their hands.

 “The people who beat this person have known that this one has gone beyond what they expect because killing somebody is not good. I am not happy about the incident, and in the strongest term possible, I condemn it,” Atari said.

Angelina Quintino, Eastern Equatoria State Member of Parliament representing SPLM Party, condemned the act, warning citizens against taking laws into their hands.

She called on security organs to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book. “The incident in Mura was unfortunate because if you kill a person, the law must take its course. If the husband of the woman beats the man to death, either it is intentional or not, the law must take its course,” she said.
