Sudanese journalists at Al-Tayyar daily newspaper are still on a hunger strike to protest what they called “arbitrary procedure” against the press and the suspension of al-Tayyar newspaper since 2015.

Al-Tayyar newspaper Editorial Director Khalid Fathy told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that they were still on hunger strike.

Khalid pointed out that two of the protesting journalists whose health condition deteriorated were taken to a hospital for treatment. He explained that they didn’t receive any contact from government officials on the issue of strike.

Separately, Mubarak Al Nur, an independent MP at Sudan’s parliament raised a motion to summon the Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman to explain the suspension of the newspaper.

In a press statement to Al-Tariq newspaper, the MP called on President Omar al-Bashir to maintain rule of law, while calling on the information minister to resign if he doesn’t have any legal document for the suspension of al-Tayyar newspaper.
