Al-Salam wins 2-1 against Al-Marreikh in Aweil

The football tournament that lasted for almost three weeks in Aweil ended with Al-Salam team winning 2-1 against Al-Marreikh last weekend.

The tournament was initiated as a means of selecting the best players in each state of South Sudan to eventually compete at the national level.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj from Aweil on Monday, the Chairperson of South Sudan Tournament Organizing Committee Andrea Majok said that Al-Salam with its win over Al-Merreikh proved itself to be the best team in the state for the season.

Majok added that Islah team became the third and Hai-Al-Toch became the fourth. The football official mentioned that after finishing the tournament the best team was now waiting to go to Juba in order to compete with their counterparts.

“What will happen is that after we have finished the football match we will send the name of the hero. Every state has a hero in all ten states and their names have been sent to General Football Union Headquarters in Juba,” Majok explained.

The General Football Union shall convene with all the secretariats of local football associations and decide randomly which teams should begin first. According to Majok this may not take long, perhaps one or two weeks.
