Al Sadiq Al Mahdi, leader of the opposition National Umma Party (NUP) said he intends to initiate a dialogue between the Khartoum government and the armed movements after the peace talks collapsed in Addis Ababa on Sunday evening.
In an interview with the Khartoum-based Al Tayyar newspaper, Al-Mahdi said his plan aims to bring the viewports closer on national issues, saying failure of the peace talks on Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile would definitely affect the African Union roadmap signed by the Sudan Appeal group.
However, the opposition leader said that the Paris Declaration force restored hope to reach national consensus in Sudan. According to Al Mahdi, the Paris Declaration force managed to remove hurdles that could have hindered any step to reach national consensus among parties, especially after bypassing demands for self-determination and regime change by force.
The Sudanese politician insisted that elements of a radical solution and a just peace and democratic transformation are available in the country.
