Al Mahdi slams Sudan Call forces over “confused stance”

The leader of the opposition National Umma Party (NUP) Sadiq al Mahdi has slammed his allies in the opposition coalition “Sudan Call” forces over what described as a “confused stance” on the call for a meeting to discuss the African Union roadmap.

Al Mahdi said that the actions of some of the members in the coalition of “Sudan Call” indicates the opposite of this expected stance.

“We need to affirm that ‘Sudan call’ is committed to its call and prove its commitment to form a new regime by one of the two ways in the call, namely: the dialogue and popular uprising and the presence of a united entity committed to the building of the nation in the presence of the current existing regime,” al Mahdi wrote in a letter to his allies in Sudan Call.

“Our speech to the Sudanese people was to encourage all elements of claiming a new regime to replace and isolate the current regime... and work to escalate this isolation by reviving Mbeki’s initiative in favor of the roadmap and make sure to remove the disadvantages in the same way of our response letter in which we reject to sign,” he added.

This statement comes after critical statements by leaders of “Sudan Call” forces over the meeting between the chairmen of the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP) Thabo Mbeki and al Sadig al Mahdi in South Africa recently.
