Al-Hurria (Freedom) Football Club which is competing in the local second division championships in Juba announced the appointment of a new coach to lead the club in the next season.
At a press conference held at its headquarters in Juba on Sunday, the club revealed the appointment of Aguer Mayiik to the position of technical director for one year. He replaces Charles John.
John assumed the position of coach of the team last season before leaving after the end of his one-year contract.
Mayiik said that although the team is playing in the second division, it is determined as shown in the last two seasons.
“The most important thing is administrative stability and the team having a goal of knowing what it does and wants to achieve.” He explained Mayiik explained.
He said the club’s administration has done everything, which is what encouraged him to work with the team. He stressed that he would live up to the aspirations of everyone in the team and that he would try as much as he could to “implement the projects that the Board of Directors had set for him.”
For his part, James Victor, the club’s Secretary General, said that what they were waiting for was achieved by signing the contract after suffering.
He pointed out that according to the country’s situation, most teams, including theirs, are suffering administratively, and added that according to the good understanding between the administration and the coach, they decided to take this step.
Al-Hurria FC started last season as one of the strongest candidates to advance to the local first division championship in Juba after the strong, distinguished, and very impressive levels in which they had appeared in the second division championship.
However, the club was subjected to great disappointment after failing to reserve one of the two qualification tickets to the center league promoted to the first division after losing its lead in Group (A) in the last round to Black Eagle and Nyakuron, respectively, to end the tournament in third place in the ranking table.
