The interim chairman of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF), Al Hadi Idris, said his dismissal from the membership of the Sudan Sovereign Council (SSC) was unconstitutional.

The interim chairman of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF), Al Hadi Idris, said his dismissal from the membership of the Sudan Sovereign Council (SSC) was unconstitutional.

Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), issued a decision on Friday relieving Idris from his position as a member of the Sovereignty Council.

Idris was appointed as a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council under the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement which the Sudanese government signed with several armed movements under the mediation of South Sudan.

In a statement that Radio Tamazuj obtained on Monday, Idris said that the decision to fire him was preceded by an organized media smear campaign by warmongers and remnants of the former regime. He claims that the decree was issued by a party that did not have the constitutional authority to dismiss him.

“Article 11, Clause 2 of the Constitutional Document indicates that the parties that selected the representatives of the Sovereignty Council are the ones who have the authority to replace any member,” He explained.

He stated that his selection was made per the Juba Agreement.

“Any violation of it would mean the collapse of the agreement that was sponsored by the Government of South Sudan,” Idris asserted.

He described the decision as “meaningless,” adding that he would continue his efforts to stop the war with the forces that believe in democracy, unity, and stability in Sudan.

A political analyst, Hatem Ayoub Abu Al-Hassan, said that the decision to relieve Al-Hadi Idris from his position may confuse the status of the Juba Peace Agreement but has no value within the current conditions in Sudan.
