Al-Darajat Football Club of Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Sunday evening celebrated at the club’s headquarters in Wau to thank former coach Garang Magon.
Magon announced last month that he would step down from his position to take up a new role as the coach of Al-Merrikh FC Wau.
The ceremony was attended by the president of Wau Football Association, Santino Odol, the Al-Darajat FC’s new coach, and the club’s executives.
The club also welcomed its new coach, Aluol Daniel Madut, who expressed his delight in joining the club.
“We will work closely with the administration of the club, the local football federation, and the community to complete the construction of the club’s headquarters”, he said. “We will also conduct a door-to-door campaign to collect donations from the community. We ask you to donate even one pound.”
For his part, Santino Odol, the president of the local football association, praised the general assembly of Al-Darajat FC Wau for choosing experienced and competent people to manage the club.
“They are a great addition to the local football federation and not just only to Al-Darajat FC,” he said. “Wau Football Association is going to benefit from the knowledge they have.”
The event included music and dance performances by Francis Wizik and other musical groups.
The organizers also held a fundraising campaign to generate money to complete the construction of the club’s headquarters.
