Al Daein emergency room provides services to thousands of Darfur IDPS

The officials running the Humanitarian Emergency Room in Al Daein, the capital of East Darfur State, revealed that they have provided medical treatment to over 8,000 people and food aid to 3,000 displaced families.

The officials running the Humanitarian Emergency Room in Al Daein, the capital of East Darfur State, revealed that they have provided medical treatment to over 8,000 people and food aid to 3,000 displaced families.

The facility has also provided shelter to an estimated 1,000 displaced people in the last few weeks.

Yahya Abu Asal, the coordinator of Al-Daein Humanitarian Emergency Room, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that they were forced to establish the facility to help displaced people from other Sudanese cities who were facing dire humanitarian conditions. He said they serve the vulnerable segments of society.

“Through efforts and the help from some good Samaritans, we were able to provide therapeutic services to 8,000 people,” he stated. “The therapeutic service consists of medicine, operations, and examinations. There are cases of patients for whom we provided treatment and food. We were also able to help 3,000 displaced families with food and 1,000 shelter pieces.”

Abu Asal revealed that they have medical kits for those who cannot afford medicine in addition to providing travel tickets for several medical cases referred to Madani or Port Sudan.

“We also carry out an environmental sanitation campaign at Al Daein Hospital every Saturday in addition to blood donation campaigns and lighting up Al Daein Hospital,” he added.

The official attributes the success of the initiative to the partnership with the Zakat office in Al Daein, local institutions, and health insurance.

For his part, an IDP, Abakar Yousif Hussein, said he arrived from the Katila area in South Darfur to treat his son who had a fracture.

“The condition of my son was difficult and I was going through a bad financial situation,” he explained. “But the youth initiative provided me with assistance so that the surgery could be performed on my son.”

Another IDP, Fatima Mohammed Saleh, said that she came with her children from the city of Nyala in South Darfur more than a month ago and they were afraid and did not know where to go in Al-Daein until they were directed to the emergency room.

She recounted that they were provided with assistance in the form of food and shelter.
