The President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan has reaffirmed the forces’ commitment to moving forward with the framework agreement and the process of democratic transition.
The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reports that Al-Burhan made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of a security and military reform workshop in Khartoum on Sunday.
Al-Burhan emphasized that security and military reform is a complex process that cannot be bypassed easily and requires a closer look at the aspect of military doctrine and laying the correct pillars for building professional Armed Forces without involving them in political battles.
He underscored importance of reforming the state’s organs and called on the holdouts to review the framework agreement and discuss them with the signatory political forces.
Al-Burhan called on Abdul-Aziz Al-Hilu and Abdul- Wahid Mohamed Al-Nur to join the peace and democratic transition processes in the country, saying these processes are led by Sudanese.
Khaled Omar Youssef, the official spokesman for the political process, said in a press statement obtained by Radio Tamazuj that the security and military reform workshop will discuss, within four days, issues of security and military reforms to establish a single professional and national army, including reforms in the police and intelligence services.
