Akuem hospital lacks fuel promised by government

Akuem hospital in Aweil East State has not received fuel that was promised by the state government, a hospital official told Radio Tamazuj.

In September, the Governor of Aweil East State Deng Deng Akuei visited the hospital, and promised to provide fuel every week for the hospital after it ran short, according to Akuem hospital director Joseph Kong.

“The governor promised to bring fuel but I was not told how much fuel (would be) provided,” Kong told Radio Tamazuj. “I received one jerry can only at the time when the national minister of health has visited the facility and it is now finished,” he said.

He added that National Minister of Health Dr. Riek Gai also promised an increase in the number of health workers, but the hospital lacks both, according to Kong.
