Akol’s faction says Kiir not serious about national dialogue

The National Democratic Movement led by opposition leader Lam Akol said that President Kiir is not serious about his call for an inclusive national dialogue to end the ongoing war in the country.

The National Democratic Movement led by opposition leader Lam Akol said that President Kiir is not serious about his call for an inclusive national dialogue to end the ongoing war in the country.

Lam Akol, a former agriculture minister in unity government who resigned in July and formed a new armed faction to fight against President Kiir. He asserted that the President has rejected all the venues and chose war instead of dialogue.

Emmanuel Aban, spokesperson for Akol’s faction, told Radio Tamazuj in an interview that President Kiir is not serious about his call for a national dialogue in the country.

He further said Kiir wants to deceive the world and the regional and convince them that the current government is working for peace and stability in South Sudan.

Emmanuel pointed out that the current situation in South Sudan requires a comprehensive dialogue facilitated by the international community to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the country.

Meanwhile, Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), said that the national dialogue is a popular demand.

Yakani further said Kiir came up with a good idea, but the challenge is its implementation on the ground, while emphasizing the importance of learning from failures of the Sudanese national dialogue called for by President Omar Al-Bashir.

The leading civil society activist called for an inclusive national dialogue in the country.
