Akobo County Hospital on Tuesday received 554 cartons of essential drugs from the USAID, UKAID and the Norwegian Ministry of Health through the South Sudan Ministry of Health. This is its third consignment since the war broke out in December 2013, the others having arrived in September 2014 and February 2015.
Hospital Director Dr. Elijah Riek said the drugs may last for three or four months depending on caseloads in the hospital and other Primary Health Units in the county. He further said that the supply will help treat the already high number of patients who were lacking essential medicines to treat most common disease like malaria, typhoid and respiratory tract infections in the area.
Dr. Elijah admitted that the Hospital had run out of drugs in recent weeks and said the supply will relieve them from the nightmares of lack of drugs in the rainy season and poor roads network connected to the area.
