Air Uganda suspends flight to Juba

Air Uganda has temporarily suspended all their flights from Entebbe to other destinations including Juba after being ordered by the Civil Aviation Authority in Uganda to cancal all flights.

On Tuesday, Kiconpo Catherine, Manager of Air Uganda in Juba, told Radio Tamazuj that they received orders from their higher office that the Civil Aviation Authority in Uganda cancelled all flights.

“There are no flights right now; all air lines that were licensed with the Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda were all put on hold. When the time comes we will announce because it has to do with our Civil Aviation Authority in Uganda,” she said.

Last week on 20 June, both passengers were stranded at Juba Airport after a surprise announcement by the airline. Passengers seeking to reach Uganda by air from Juba are now traveling on Kenya Airways via Nairobi.

The reasons for the suspension were not made entirely clear. However, some other press reports say that the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority revoked all operating certificates after an audit by the International Civil Aviation Authority revealed some shortcomings in application of their internal rules.

Ugandan airlines themselves had reportedly complied with Ugandan civil aviation rules, and the decision to revoke operating licenses stemmed from problems within the civil aviation body itself, and not the airlines.
