South Sudan army spokesperson Colonel Philip Aguer said warplanes sighted coming and returning from the direction of Sudan dropped bombs in Northern Bahr al Ghazal state Wednesday. No lives were lost, he said.
The attack occurred in Aweil West County. According to Aguer, the bombs landed inside South Sudanese territory at a place called Mayom Angok, a village in Ayat area.
Aweil West county commissioner Garang Ariath confirmed the incident, saying it caused panic among civilians, some of whom fled to the bush for cover. The bombs are reported to have destroyed several houses and a school in the area.
