A humanitarian worker working for Caritas Switzerland in Ikotos County of Eastern Equatoria State was found dead in his house in Ikotos town on Thursday, a family member said.
The aid worker was identified as Odongi Abraham Apollo.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Ohisa Abraham, a family member, said: “There was an incident that took place. We lost one of our great brothers called Odongi Abraham Apollo, so Odongi passed on at night, then he was discovered in the morning when the children were going to school because their clothes were inside his room.”
Mr Ohisa, who is also the chairperson of Ikotos County youth, said county authorities were still investigating the cause of Odongi’s death.
“The cause of death remains unknown and there was no sign of sickness. He came from his workplace and in the morning he was found dead,” he added.
Meanwhile, Odongi Joseph, the Paramount Chief of Ikotos County, confirmed the incident and called for courage among the deceased’s family members.
“My message to the family of the late, my condolences to them, they should be cool in heart and be courageous because death is like a thief. Let’s humble our hearts as one and submit everything to the hand of God, let them don’t think a lot and let them look after the children who are left behind,” he said.
Lodai Karlos, an officer in charge at Ikotos Primary Health Care Center, said the late did not show body complications or signs of poison.
He, however, said the health facility lacks medical equipment, pointing out that it was not easy for them to examine the cause of death.
“We tried to reach the venue. Personally, I came for sure and we found him dead. And when we checked his body, we did not get any sign like bleeding and there was not even any flow of saliva,” he said.
