International donors committed nearly $796 million to humanitarian operations in South Sudan for the year 2012, according to publically avaiable data.
The UN coordination agency organizes yearly a ‘consolidated appeal’, CAP, to request money from donor governments for aid agencies and organizations working in the country.
For the year 2012 the appeal reached the $1.16 billion, meaning that the current pledges and donations fill approximately 69 percent of that request.
The tally of nearly $800 million includes both contributions to the OCHA appeal and bilateral donations.
The figure above shows contributions by donor nation. It was included in a report released by the US aid agency yesterday.
The website of OCHA’s financial tracking service corroborates the data in the table above.
The figure above has been cropped and does not show the contribution amounts of the next largest donors which are: Canada ($19 million), the Netherlands ($12.6 million), and Italy ($8.3 million).
