Col. Philip Aguer, spokesman of the SPLA-Juba forces, says that SPLA-IO attackers were repulsed from Jamam area of Maban County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State, noting the area remains under their control.
Speaking on Sunday, he further said the rebels were scattered during the standoff. He pointed out that the rebels came from the Bout area in southern Blue Nile.
Brigadier Lul Ruai, military spokesman of the SPLA-IO forces said they inflicted heavy casualties on SPLA-Juba during clashes in Jamam area last Friday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Lul claimed their forces decided to withdraw after torching an SPLA-N military training centre near Jamam, while denying reports that the attacking forces headed toward Sudanese territory.
“We have tactically pulled out of Jamam, so we are now stationed near the area.” Lul further admitted that about two SPLA-IO fighters sustained minor injuries during the clashes.
Aguer said that the casualty figures have not been counted yet.
