Col. Philip Aguer, the official spokesman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), has firmly dismissed the rumor of an incursion of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) into the Safe Demilitarized Zone in Upper Nile State.
Aguer confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the security situation is relatively calm in the Safe Demilitarized Zone.
It had been reported even by top officials within the Renk County government that SAF crossed into South Sudan near Bebeniss on the eastern border with Blue Nile State.
“In case of any violation with respect to the Demilitarized Zone the two parties would immediately complain to the international monitors,” said Aguer.
The army spokesman further noted that the Joint Political and Security Mechanism has agreed to alternately inspect the common borders between Sudan and South Sudan.
