A team from the National Agriculture Ministry visited Manyo county in the Upper Nile, South Sudan. It was accompanied by investors who were interested to invest in agricultural projects.
The investors were both local and foreign and were taken to see the agricultural farms in the county, Manyo commissioner Al Taib Ajak reported to Radio Tamazuj on 20 November. The National Agriculture Ministry said in October that they are working to attract investors in the agriculture sector.
The Ministry has also sent an aircraft to spray pesticides on the farmland at Kodok and Renk in Upper Nile, commissioner Ajak affirmed.
Fruitful farming season
In related development, Ajak said the farming season was relatively successful in the area. He attributes the reason to what he terms a “stable security situation” in Manyo. The harvest of sesame and African gum has kicked off since last October. However, in the beginning of November, spraying operations in neighbouring agricultural projects pushed the pests towards the Renk area.
Ajak called upon the national government and the Agricultural Bank of South Sudan to inject substantial money on agriculture and support the farmers in order to strengthen the agricultural sector in the country.
