After relocation, civil servants in Western Nile say they haven’t been paid

Civil servants in South Sudan’s proposed Western Nile State have complained that they have not received salaries since being transferred from Eastern Nile State.

Civil servants in South Sudan’s proposed Western Nile State have complained that they have not received salaries since being transferred from Eastern Nile State.

In March, civil servants from Upper Nile State were purged and transferred to other regions after the order to create 28 states. President Salva Kiir has divided Upper Nile State into three successor states predominantly on a racial basis, with West Nile State inhabited mostly by Shilluks, East Nile by Dinkas and Latjor State by Nuers.

Several civil servants in Renk County appear to be significantly effected, and say they have not received salaries supposedly due to a budget shortage.

“We did not hear anything about the salaries up to now and we are in dire condition. Life has become very hard, especially we who are living in Renk” said one employee. “We used to eat the grass but now there is no rainfall, and no salaries” he added.
