The African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) was scheduled to hold a meeting on Sudan conflict in Addis Ababa Tuesday.

A diplomatic source told Anadolu News Agency that the council would hear about ongoing peace efforts from a delegation that visited Khartoum last week August.

Meanwhile, another source told Radio Tamazuj that the AUPSC would be briefed by chief mediator Thabo Mbeki on his meeting with Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on 12 August and on talks with the Paris Declaration Force over the weekend.

Ali Tarayo, a leading member of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), confirmed that the meeting between the SRF and the National Umma Party (NUP) that Thabo Mbeki held focused on the peace process in Sudan. But he described the government position as “negative.”
