The African Union Peace and Security Council meeting on Friday decided to again delay the release of the report of the African Union Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan.
The Council issued a communique on the matter after holding a ministerial-level meeting in Addis Ababa. The communique says that the Council members agreed to form an ad hoc sub-committee “to consider the report… and make recommendations on the way forward.”
The sub-committee will comprise representatives of Algeria, Chad, Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. They will make recommendations on what do with the report by the third week of August 2015, ahead of an AU Heads of State Summit by the end of August.
According to the communique, the AU Commission of Inquiry produced not only a final report but also a “Separate Opinion” – apparently indicating a dissenting opinion on the report’s contents or conclusions by one of the members of the Commission.
