The Bank of South Sudan Governor, James Alic Garang, has said the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the African Development Fund will grant the country disaster risk financing.

Addressing reporters on return from attending the AfDB and the African Development Fund annual meetings in Nairobi, Kenya, Garang said the occasions provided a platform for the exchange of views and also allowed the directors of the two institutions to make several resolutions that matter to Africa

The meeting was very successful, and we discussed, among other issues, the need to reform the global financial architecture, and our views were expressed in a communiqué, Garang said.

The boards also made resolutions on how to help AfDB deliver on five priority areas that President Akinwumi Adesina has highlighted since he came to office in 2015, he said, identifying the issues as including lighting up and powering Africa to feed itself, and the integration of the continent.

Garang disclosed that they held several other regional level meetings, including one on the Horn of Africa Initiative, where South Sudan is a member. It discussed the need to connect the member countries

He disclosed that South Sudan has the opportunity to be granted support under the Africa Disaster and Risk Financing Mechanism.

“While this is an opportunity where governors and ministers of finance and heads of state interact and exchange views on how to improve global and regional integration, the opportunity also gave us, especially the delegation from South Sudan, a chance to share our views. One of those things that we highlighted very well, we believe, is the need to tell the region and the world that South Sudan is open for business, there is so much at home and that there is a lot beyond the oil,” Garang said.
