Ajsaam Al-Salaam, a women’s advocacy group, has distributed 150 sanitary pads to displaced girls in El Fasher, the capital of Sudan’s North Darfur state.
This initiative marked the culmination of a five-day campaign organized by Ajsaam Al-Salaam, aimed at providing support to displaced women and girls from North Darfur.
In addition to distributing sanitary pads, the group conducted essential activities, including reproductive health training, general safety education for women and girls in conflict zones, and mental health support.
Radio Tamazuj had the opportunity to speak with some of the women and girls who participated in these training sessions.
Hanan Ibrahim, a participant, shared her thoughts on the reproductive healthcare session, emphasizing its value in dealing with newborns and providing support to first-time pregnant women. She stated, “I benefited from the session on reproductive healthcare, particularly in dealing with new infants and supporting expectant first-time mothers.”
Another displaced woman, Abeer Mohamed Yagoub, expressed how the training had empowered them to protect themselves and their loved ones from abuse and violations.
She said, “Through what we have learned from the training, we can better protect ourselves. We have endured physical and mental hardships, but now we are more equipped to safeguard ourselves.”
Anwar Abdalla from El Geneina highlighted the importance of the mental health support session, especially for those dealing with trauma due to the ongoing conflict. She said, “Many of us are traumatized, experiencing anxiety and fear. I benefited greatly from the mental health support session. We hope for the war to end so that everyone can return to their homes.”
Similarly, Sana, a displaced woman from the Soba suburb in the capital Khartoum who sought refuge in El Fasher, shared her learnings from the mental health session, which enabled her to identify symptoms of trauma, shock, and changes in children’s mood.
This campaign brought together 255 women and girls from five displaced persons camps across El Fasher. It exemplifies the resilience and determination of organizations like Ajsaam Al-Salaam in supporting vulnerable communities and fostering their well-being.
