Citizens in Ad Daein town in Sudan’s East Darfur State have expressed fears that the ongoing disarmament campaign may leave some communities vulnerable to attacks, saying the campaign could undermine peace efforts in the state.
Mustapha Bakhit, a civil society activist in Ad-Daein town, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the major challenge facing the campaign in East Darfur State is the proliferation of arms in the hands of civilians and militia groups. He called on the government to exert efforts in the disarmament exercise.
