South Sudan’s acting army chief, Gen. Jok Riak, has been diagnosed with stomach ulcers at Nairobi Hospital this afternoon and his condition was stable.
After falling sick in the capital Juba, doctors at Military Hospital determined he suffered from malaria and stomach discomfort.
The acting army chief, Gen. Jok Riak, who is seen as favourite to succeed late James Ajongo, was flown to Nairobi for emergency medical care on Thursday evening.
Gen. Jok fell sick in Juba, barely a week after the army chief Gen. James Ajongo Mawut died in Egypt following a short illness.
“The result of the checkup is now out and Gen. Jok has been diagnosed with stomach ulcers,” one of the family members told Radio Tamazuj.
The family member said Gen. Jok’s health condition was stable and that the he will be discharged from the hospital on Saturday if his health condition continues to improve.
