Authorities of the Abyei Administrative Area and Warrap’s State Twic County on Monday told Radio Tamazuj that border relations between the people of both areas had normalized after clashes in recent weeks.

Authorities of the Abyei Administrative Area and Warrap’s State Twic County on Monday told Radio Tamazuj that border relations between the people of both areas had normalized after clashes in recent weeks.

Suspected armed youth from Warrap’s Twic County attacked Mading-Acueng village near Abyei town and killed 18 people including a six-year-old child, and wounded 11 other people at the end of last month.

According to officials, Twic armed youth instigated the conflict due to a land dispute that has led to the loss of many lives and destruction of property.

Ajang Deng Miyen, Abyei’s information minister said the situation is stable as SSPDF redeployed forces along the borders.

“The forces in Mayen Abun were redeployed by SSPDF commanders along Abyei andTwic borders to calm the situation. Up to now, there are no reports of killing except for the Saturday incident the week before last week. People are now doing their seasonal work securely even goods continue to come from Sudan but only Sudanese criminals occasionally attack the vehicles,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malek Ring, Twic County acting commissioner confirmed that the border security has been stabilized.

“That incident was the last, no other fighting again with Abyei people because we are one community. Commercial trucks are moving from Abyei to Wau via Twic and vice versa,” Ring said.
