Students of Abyei secondary school in the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan have complained of harsh living conditions and lack of housing and transport after the school was reopened earlier this year following their relocation from Agok.
Speaking on the weekly programme “Abyei Today” one of the students said they are living in a bad situation and they are facing challenges in transportation when visiting their relatives due to rise of tariff to Agok area to 30 SSP.
The Directorate of Education in Abyei has reopened Abyei secondary school earlier this year after it was closed for nearly four years following the events of 2011.
Some students were relocated from Agok to Abyei secondary school and are staying with their relatives, while their families are still living in Agok.
“The situation if very bad and sometimes we sleep hungry. When you stay away from your families the situation will be very difficult and to go back to Aniet you sometimes cannot get the money for transport,” he said.
