A peace committee between Ngok Dinka and Misseriya tribes in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan says is committed to recovering cattle stolen by fugitives from both sides and paying compensation for missing cows.

Chief Nyol Fagot from Ngok Dinka said after a meeting of the peace committee on Sunday that his tribe has paid 1500 SSP to the Misseriya tribe as a compensation for stolen cattle.

He added that they will complete the payment tomorrow Thursday, reaffirming the commitment of both tribes to implement their peace agreement.

“On Thursday everything from our part will be paid. For the remaining stolen cattle we will look for it and return it to their owners. If we did not find the cattle we will look on how to compensate them,” Fagot said.

For his part the chairperson of the peace committee from Misseriya, Nimeiri Bakhtan, says they are committed to pay compensation to Ngok Dinka by tomorrow Thursday.

He reiterated their commitment to peace and hoping that peace prevails.

“Our brothers Ngok Dinka said forty cattle are on their way to be paid. This is a good sign and we are happy that the peace is moving forward. For our part we are committed to pay any compensation to the Ngok Dinka,” said Bakhtan. “We will pay some of the compensation and on Thursday we will pay the remaining cattle”.
