Police suspect two young children found dead in Abyei on Monday were sexually assaulted and then killed. They have arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.
A five year-old girl and a six year-old boy were found drowned in a water reservoir by citizens and then brought to Abyei hospital, the medical director of the hospital, Dr. Anyoun Deng, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday.
“At around 3:00 in the afternoon, two men carrying two dead bodies came to the hospital so as to find out the cause of their death,” he explained. “They told us that they found both of them drowned in a hafir (reservoir).”
Director-General of Health Dr. Monytuic came later and made medical examinations. He found that the two children were sexually assaulted, according to the doctor.
According to the post-mortem report, the two victims were raped and then strangled before being thrown into the water source.
