The Agok Civil Hospital in the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan has recently received a shipment of medicines but they are not enough, hospital director Dr. Ayom Kurchek told Radio Tamazuj.

Kurchek said the medicines are enough for three months only due to an increase in the population caused by people coming from neighbouring areas for treatment in the area. “The ration is meant for the local population only, while there are people who come from neighbouring areas particularly from Unity State,” he said.

He pointed out that they have reported the matter to the relevant authorities. The health official added they distributed the medicines to different health facilities including the Abyei Hospital. He called on the Warrap State government to increase the medicines ration due to increasing number of people in need of the medicines.

Kurchek pointed out that the State Minister of Health promised to send a quantity of oral anti-malaria medicines before the rainy season.
