Monytwic Biong, the Director General of Health in the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan, said the government health clinics have run out of medicine in the area.

Monytwic Biong, the Director General of Health in the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan, said the government health clinics have run out of medicine in the area.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Wednesday, Biong said they last received a shipment of medicines in September.

He added that they also have a shortage of medical staff because medical personnel prefer to work with aid organizations due to low salaries paid by the government. He said this is a general problem facing South Sudan not Abyei area only.

Biong called on the National Ministry of Heath to train medical staffs in order cope up with the health situation. Biong revealed that the minister of health paid an inspection visit to area in order to assess the health situation and the challenges facing medical staff.
