The Abyei Legislative Assembly passed a bylaw cancelling a decision taken by the Education Department, which imposed a fee of 50 SSP per student as tuition fee.

Adol Nyual Mawut, a lawmaker, told Radio Tamazuj that the chairman of Services Committee in the Assembly had raised a motion on the tuition fees issue.

He noted the members unanimously passed the motion repealing what he termed an illegal decision by the education department in Abyei.

Meanwhile, the Education Department in the contested area of Abyei yesterday announced the primary school examinations result for the academic year 2013/2014.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the Services and Social Welfare Minister in Abyei, Acuil Mayan said that the pass rate is 55% out of about 263 eligible candidates who sat for the examinations.

The official expressed his dissatisfaction with the results of the Arabic section this year compared to previous years.
