Abyei Hospital runs shortage of medicines

A medical worker in Abyei Special Administrative Area raises complains over shortages of medicines to assist the local population. “We have just received some small medicines from a church as an assistant but that can only takes us three days and our worry is that when these medicines finished and we receive no new supply then the situation will be out of hand”, says Machiek Mohamed Anyuop, medical worker in Abeyi hospital.

According Anyuop, the biggest problem is the outbreak of skin infections, since two months. When asked the medical personal what caused the outbreak of skin infection and he said it was not clear yet what caused the skin diseases but this situation need more research. He stressed that among the medicines they received there is no treatment for skin infection. “We asked the patients to buy injections from the drug shop”

He said the situation in term of health in the area is worse compared to the rest of the States in South Sudan. Mohamed appreciated their presence in the region as the newly employed medical personals in the region, “We are receiving people affected outside Abyei for the treatment because they know that the hospital has medical personal”
