Abyei Hospital runs short of malaria injection drugs

Dr. Ayom Kurchek Ayom, Diector General at the Abyei Hospital says that the hospital is running low on injections for treating malaria. He says they will run out next month.

“We received medicines from Juba for Abyei people but the region has accommodated many IDPS from neighboring states, making the population too large for the medicine supplied,” he told Radio Tamazuj.

Ayom forecast that the malaria tablets that they have will last another two months whereas the injections will run out within a month.

There are two main hospitals in Abyei Area including one in Abyei town and the other in Agok.

“The main challenges that we had was lack of medical doctors but currently last month we have received four doctors from Juba and we shall not have any problem against on the side of know-how in the area,” Kurchek stated.

The official stated that the health situation is relatively stable compared to last year, however there is a small increase in the number of malaria cases. “I can say there are cases of malaria this year but they are not like last year,” he said
