Abyei excluded from Sudanese elections

The head of the West Kordofan high committee for elections said the Abyei Administration is not included in national and state constituencies for Sudan’s 2015 elections.

Abdul-Jabar Ibrahim told Alshrooq network that the areas covered by the upcoming Sudanese elections are areas north of Abyei, a disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan.

Sudan’s National Elections Commission chief Mukhtar El Asam announced earlier that voting in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections will take place 12 April 2015.

Meanwhile, officers of the national and state constituencies were sworn in Sunday in Fula town before the head of the high committee for elections in West Kordofan.

Ibrahim called on the officers to be neutral and act impartially.

Street children arrested  

Separately, police in Abyei announced that the arrest of five street children accused of armed robbery.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the suspects stole 400 South Sudanese Pounds at gunpoint.

The CID said they recovered the money and the robbers were arrested while investigations continue.
