A local chief says that 1500 displaced people from Marialachak in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan need food after returning to their homes.

The 1500 returnees fled the area following attacks by militias belonging to Misseriya tribe in March last year, according to UN reports.

Chol Puor, the Chief of Marial Ajak, said the returnees did not farm last year due to the violence.

“The people are suffering from hunger because they did not go to farm last year due to the incident,” he said.

Chol added that the hospital in Marial Ajak lacks medicine and medical staff.
