Abyei chief names new deputy in shuffle

Abyei Area Chief Administrator Dr Chol Deng Alaak has announced changes in her government.

Alaak on Monday appointment former Health Minister Deng Arop as Deputy Chief Administrator and promoted former docket Secretary General, Dr Rou Manyiel, to the helm of the ministry. John Ajang, formerly the Director General for the Ministry of Education, is now the Health Ministry Secretary General.

Information and Communication Minister Bulish Koch told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the changes that took effect on Tuesday were aimed at enhancing service delivery.

“The changes effected on Tuesday are to improve the service delivery to the people of Abyei. Deng Arop is appointed Deputy Chief Administrator and Dr Rou Manyiel has assumed his position as Health Minister because he has a medical background. Former Director General of Education John Ajang is appointed the Secretary General of Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA),” he said

Koch said Thiok Deng Mayol was appointed Minister for Agriculture because the holder of the office had resigned.

Dr Manyiel expressed his gratitude for the trust bestowed upon him by the Chief Administrator and promised to improve the health system in Abyei.

“The good thing is that this position is my career. I studied both human and animal health and I have the experience. I appreciate Alaak for the chance she has given me to serve the people of Abyei,” he added.

Dr Manyiel admitted that there was a shortage of drugs in the public health centers, including in Abyei town. He said the area government would endeavor to purchase assorted drugs and engage the NGOs for support.
