Abu Kershola town “deserted” after SPLA-N rebel threat

Sudanese citizens have deserted Abu Kershola town in South Kordofan state for fear of attacks by the SPLA-North rebels.

SPLA-N leader Abdel-Aziz Adam Al-Hilu has ordered his men to stop the elections in the state by force.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several activists said about 13 vehicles carrying families left the Abu Kersholda area over the last few days.

They said local authorities failed to persuade the civilians to stay.

Citizens in the capital Kadugli were also reportedly fleeing due to fear of the SPLA-North.

Several citizens complained that prices for bus tickets to neighbouring towns have risen, with a ride to El Obeid costing 80 SDG compared to 50 SDG before Al Hilu's order to disrupte the eelctions.

Some travellers have had to wait almost a week to get out due to the amount of people intending to depart.
