The family of Abraham Majak Maliap, who was arrested after being linked to armed rebellion and has been in detention for a year, is calling on the government to release him or present him before a court of law.
Majak’s sister Akuer Maliap told Radio Tamazuj that her brother was arrested in Gok State capital of Cuibet in October 2017 and has been in detention ever since under unclear circumstances.
Akuer said the family is concerned about the whereabouts of Majak after they were denied access to meet him at the National Security Services Blue House in Juba over the weekend.
“This Saturday I went to see him but I was told by NSS that it’s impossible to meet him, claiming that there is an investigation going on which doesn’t allow relatives of detainees to meet them,” she said.
Akuer stressed that she was not aware why her brother was being held.
She urged the government to either release him like other detainees or take him to court for trial and allow the family to access him.
