The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission RRC says about one million people in greater Jonglei states are in dire need of humanitarian aid this year.

RRC director for greater Jonglei Gabriel Deng told Radio Tamazuj last week that about one million people in Akobo, Pochalla, Fangak, Pibor, Ayod and greater Twic areas lack food, clean water and shelter.

He said the situation has been exacerbated by insecurity due to the on-going fighting, saying farmers have not been able to access their farmlands. He also noted that the situation may deteriorate further with the onset of the rainy season.

Deng appealed to the government and armed opposition groups to cease hostilities and bring peace adding that a lasting peace is the only long-term solution to South Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.
