About 33 people, including minors, face charges related to Sudan’s uprising

At least 33 people, including minors, have allegedly been taken to a special court, facing charges following Sudan’s recent uprising.

A according to a source, a criminal court in Khartoum Bahri, chaired by Judge Mohamed Sadig postponed the hearing of the 33 cases planned for Wednesday, to 6, 17 and 19 November.  

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Amal El Zein, of the Sudanese Organisation for the Defence of Rights and Freedoms confirmed that about 33 people, including children, are being accused by the authorities of damaging public properties, robbery, as well as creating chaos.

“Out of the 33 accused, four of them are children. One of them is a primary school pupil and the rest reached secondary level,“ she explained.

Tens of people were reportedly killed and hundreds are still in detention following anti-government demonstration, across Sudan, triggered by the lifting of fuel subsidies by the government.
