Authorities in Fashoda State are calling on humanitarian organizations to deliver aid to about 3,000 returnees now assembled in Akurua County. They say the numbers may increase as the returnees continue to stream in daily.

The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission chairman in the area Muzamil Ujuok Ajak , told Radio Tamazuj after visiting the returnees that their situation is bad.

“These people from Sudan are in dire need. I want to urge aid organisations to come and assist them. They came from South Kordofan state and they are in Akurua area. They don’t have anything they are living under trees, no tents, no food, nothing. And the rains are here,” he appealed.

Ujuok said the returnees were displaced by fighting and have only started returning since last week.
