Citizens of Abiemnhom West County in Ruweng State are likely to face food crisis due to failure of food production, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Abiemnhom West County Commissioner, Marial Manyiel said heavy floods that hit the area this year destroyed farmlands, making it difficult for farmers to produce food.
He urged humanitarian organizations to urgently provide the support needed for citizens migrating to the other areas in search of food.
Close to 1 million people in many parts of South Sudan have been directly affected by flooding that destroyed 73,000 metric tons of potential harvests and wiped out tens of thousands of cattle and goats on which people depend for survival.
The government of South Sudan declared a state of emergency in late October in Bahr el Ghazal, Greater Upper Nile and Greater Equatoria because of the floods, calling for international assistance to be stepped up.

President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar agreed to delay the formation of a transitional government by a further 100 days, after missing a 12 November deadline.
