Thomas Abui Clement, a 10-year-old child who was last month abducted along Juba Torit road, was on Monday reunited with his family after escaping from the abductors.
Abui and two others were abducted by an unknown group in Jebel Mulak area on December 15, 2019.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Abui said he managed to escape from his abductors during the night while they were sleeping.
“While they were sleeping at night, I put my shoes near the grass, moved slowly and when I picked my shoes, I slowly moved into the bush and later on started running. The place was bushy, but I kept paving way for by myself. They followed me, but they used a different side of the bush,” he explained.
The 10-year-old boy said he was received by government soldiers in Mangala County and later transported to Juba. He was airlifted by his family members from Juba to Torit.
Abui’s mother, Teresa Nyakude Jerefasio, urged South Sudanese to pray when faced with hard situations. “I am so happy for the coming of my son who was abducted,” she said.
William Okot Detoby, an uncle to the 10-year-old boy, advised South Sudanese to fear God and treat everyone in a good way. He condemned abduction of children, saying it is against God’s will.
Last year, four children were reportedly abducted in the same area.
