Daud Abu Kalam, Al Abbassiya Locality Commissioner in Sudan’s South Kordofan State announced that peace committees between local communities in government controlled areas and SPLA-North territories would be set up.

Abu Kalam told Radio Tamazuj that he met with native administration leaders in preparation for the process. He claimed that they will provide the necessary protection for those who cross from the SPLA-North areas for the purpose of shopping.

“I have met with all native administration leaders here, we want to form peace committees,” he said. “So, as citizens we want to have communications, people want to go for shopping and then return back,” he added.

Abu Kalam, who is also head of the security committee in the locality, expressed his hope for the success of communication between citizens, saying political negotiations between the government and SPLA-North rebels should be left to higher authorities only.
