A notorious criminal who had recently been released from detention after being found with a gun on Thursday morning attacked and killed police Sergeant Major Bol Marual Gum in Lakes State’s Cueibet County.
The incident took place at the Malou-pech Payam Police Post of Cueibet County where the deceased was stationed.
The police spokesperson in Lakes State, Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, told Radio Tamazuj that the criminal fled the scene after killing the policeman but that he was being pursued.
“According to the information, the perpetrator is a very notorious criminal and we were informed that he was apprehended on 20 February and disarmed by the police force and released the following morning,” he said. “He (criminal) went and acquired another rifle and went ahead and attacked the came to attack the police station and killed Sergeant Major Marual and fled and is now at large.”
He will be arraigned in court when apprehended,” Maj. Mabor added.
He said the security situation in the restive state is generally calm.
